What We Need

My good friend Mike tweeted this article from the Harvard Business Review earlier this week and it's stuck with me ever since. Here's author Tony Schwartz's list:

WE NEED LESS:WE NEED MORE:

Shallow billionairesPassionate teachers
Self-promotionSelf-awareness
MultitaskingControl of our attention
InequalityFairness
SugarLean protein
ActionReflection
Super sizesSmaller portions
Private jetsHigh-speed trains

Constructive criticismThank-you notes

AnswersCuriosity
Long hoursLonger sleep
ComplainingGratitude
SittingMoving
SellingAuthenticity
CynicismRealistic optimism
Self-indulgenceSelf-control
SpeedRenewal

Immediate gratificationSacrifice

Here's mine:

I NEED LESS:I NEED MORE:

WorryPrayer

RamblingDiscussion

Junk foodGood food

The stark exchange from one way of thinking to another was a nice jolt in the right direction. Remembering I want to breathe instead of rush has to start somewhere, right?

What would be on your list? What ideas do you need to be exchanging?

  1. I do love a good list! So cool that you did this. I probably would've read over the Harvard article and thought, "hm, nice" and moved on. That's awesome that you thought about it and took the time to make your own introspective "More/Less" list.

A couple that just popped into my head:
Less Facebook, More Faces (in real life)
    Less Negative, More Positive
    Less Excuses, More Trusting God
Less Milk Chocolate, More Dark Chocolate
    Less Ho-Hum, More Adventure

    See you tonight for dinner!
