My younger sister, Sarah, was recently contracted as a second grade teacher. (Wooooo!!!) She is everything the perfect elementary school teacher should be: sweet and patient and kind and intelligent. And silly.
Next week is her birthday and in true Hoormann fashion we're throwing a family dinner with all the trimmings.
Courtney is in charge of dessert.
Mom and Dad are making Sarah's favorite dinner, "Summer Food". On the menu: Barbecued Pork Chops, Potato Casserole, Corn on the Cob, Cucumber Salad, Watermelon... Mmm.
I was self-delegated to handle the theme and decor. What better way to celebrate a new teacher than with a Back-to-School Birthday party?!
I'll be sharing some of my creations later next week but to get the creativity flowing, my inspiriation is old school. (ha. a pun.)
Brown paper lunch sacks
Apples
School buses
Glue sticks
Chalk
Balloons
Vintage flash cards
Letter cookies
Wooden Rulers or Yardsticks
To personalize, I'll be adding Sarah-specific touches:
Math problems with 24 as the answer
Sarah's yearbook pictures
Happy Birthday bunting
With all this said, the most exciting part for me is knowing I've given myself a very small budget. Very small. Like mostly non-existant. For us birthday-obsessed frugal sisters, it'll be a night to remember.
