I have loved the preppy simplicity of silhouettes most my life. I distinctly remember being lined up on the wall in my little motarboard hat to make a kindergarten graduation silhouette. Precious.
Earlier this month when the gals over at Lemon Tree Creations posted a quick homage to these little beauties and my wheels got to turning.
A few things to note:
One. My husband Bob and I are not photographic people. We are fun. We like to laugh. We're snarky. We're a darn hoot... we're just not photogenic.
Two. I work with weddings every day and I loved my own blissful day but, really, I'm kind of over it. We aren't big "most wonderfulest day of our lives" kind of people.
Three. I have lots of blank wall space.
With that said, I set off to add some Wedding Day silhouette wall art to our bathroom walls. Here's how:
I started with two photos of Bob and I that captured a couple of my favorite memories from the day.
Fun, right?
The first displays my usual excessive enthusiasm and the second looks like a romantic first dance but is actually Bob and I discussing how ridiculously long our song was and how awkward it was for people to be watching us. That's love, folks.
I cropped the photos in Word and printed them on cardstock. Then, while watching the always-entertaining, 90's classic Major Dad, I cut out those cute little lovebirds.
The tiny pictures were cute but, committed to my cause, I busted out my trusty acrylic paint (so cheap! so addictive!) and painted us black. (As a side note, I temporarily considered some kind of untraditional colored silhouette. Next time?)
Silhouettes!
I glued the little baby silhouettes to rounds of white cardstock cut to fit into a pair of frames I found (and sanded and painted black) on Craigslist and, bingo!, personalized wall art that gracefully omits our goofy faces.
If only we were as cute as I was in kindergarten...
