I worked a stinkin' 12-hour day so Bob decided my birthday didn't actually start until 8pm. He's very smart. Even though it was therefore not technically my birthday, he sent me off to work with an excellent homemade lunch after making breakfast while I got ready. So sweet.
We kicked off Birthday Weekend at our dear friends' home with yummy dessert on their patio. The evening combined most of my very favorite things (summertime, brownies, my birthday, sweet friends...) and was perfect.
The rest of the weekend was a whirlwind including dinners with both sides of the family and a Sunday matinee symphony performance with my man.
My mother in law made fabulous icecream cone cupcakes. (Does anyone else remember these?!) She researched various recipes and techniques and settled on two varieties. One set had the cake baked into the cones and were flatter (less realistic, more yummy). The other set was a cone filled with candy, stacked with two cupcakes (one regular and one mini) and frosted to look like an incredibly convincing icecream cone. Ahhh-mazing.
My sister Courtney made dirt cake! This was not the typical gummy wormed mess, however. This was ladylike dirt cake. Isn't it beautiful?!
I am a blessed (very full) birthday girl.
